Rewind to February… Mom was hiking in New Zealand… Dad was feeding the kids… There were days they went without shoes. Sometimes, they even got hungry… They were dark, dark days.
In amongst the gloom and chaos, LR was forced to compete against hardened athletes in a trampoline competition. Somehow, despite her hair being done by her father, LR managed to rise up, again and again, soaring into the the sky, capturing first place in her competition.
Well done LR!!!!
In October, we drove south to Eagle Bay with some friends for a few days, and north to Gingin for a weekend with Grammy and Poppa. RJ had his first t-ball game and… his team won! In the middle of all of this (and the Royal Show AND Halloween) we somehow found the time to visit Scitech with some friends to see some of their new exhibits. Wow! We need a break!
In August, as many of us suffered colds and ear infections, another birthday rolled around, RJ played his soccer final, and the kids dressed up for Book Day. We also spent a great weekend up at Gingin with some friends and discovered LR really can be an angel when she wants to.
Mom: So RJ, for news today you have to talk about something that’s happening during school holidays.
RJ: Like our trip?
Dad: Good idea. Perhaps something about where we’re going, what we might see.
RJ: How about something I’m bringing?
Dad: That could work.
RJ: Well, I’m bringing a sock.
Dad: (doubtful) Umm… Maybe something a bit more-
RJ: But it’s special! He’s my friend! He’s called Sockster!
Dad: (uncertain) Okay?
RJ: He has a song that he sings:
“Sock sock sock, socks rock!
Sock sock sock, socks rock!”Dad: Well…
RJ: And he has a favorite sport!
Dad: What’s that?
RJ: SOCCER! He always wins the trophy.
Dad: Fair enough. You can tell everyone about Sockster.
(Sockster didn’t exist until this conversation. He was invented on-the-spot, purely for entertaining the class.)
On Saturday, LR and the Jets played the Nedaroos. It was a close match with both teams scoring and the Nedaroos jumping ahead into an early lead. The Jets came screaming back and nearly closed the gap, but couldn’t quite make it, finishing the game at 3 goals to the Nedaroos 4. After their stint in the international leagues, the Jets are still adjusting to the non-regulation, shorter games. All-in-all, a great match with terrific effort from both teams… (Not to mention the best looking coach on the field.)

LR is ready to get in the game!
LR had her second soccer match on the weekend, and they came away winners! That makes them 1-1 for the season.
More importantly, as LR said herself…
I ran the whole time! I never got to stop running!
Congrats to the team and to their coach (she hasn’t coached soccer before, but is doing an awesome job — great looking too)!
Great effort kiddo! Well done!
(We’ll try and get some pictures of the action at the next game.)
RJ has begun his grueling training regime for the year. “Spring” training got off to a great start when, at his first practice session, he managed to hit the ball directly into the face of his coach, standing several metres away. Not surprisingly, T-ball is now his favorite sport.

RJ at the bat, moments after giving the ball a mighty clobbering.
