Dad: Is that a problem?

RJ: Yes. It reminds me of giant spiders walking around the house… Giant spiders that eat people.

Dad: Maybe we could train one. We could have it as a pet!

RJ: No. That’s not a good idea.

Dad: Why not?

RJ: Because Grammy doesn’t mind little spiders, but she would be scared of a giant spider and she would freak out.

Dad: Fair enough. Can’t say I’d blame her.

A Trip to Gingin

We took a quick trip up to Gingin over the weekend and discovered that some of the trees had fruit on them. We also drove around the farm, stopping at the big pit for an explore. On the way back, we scouted for bones in the fields and discovered a complete fox skeleton, with teeth and everything else intact!

Foxxy made the rounds at the kids’ schools for show-and-tell, and was a big hit!

LR is fully loaded up with mandarines from the citrus trees.

We had a big surprise waiting for us. The citrus trees were all loaded with ripe fruit!

RJ carries back a big load of citrus.

LR and I. work hard squeezing the juice from the mandarines.

RJ enjoys the juicy reward from all the hard work picking.

RJ, I., LR and J. explore the giant sandy pit as Scarlet watches over them.

LR demonstrates her fearlessness by leaping off the embankment.

LR loves to fly!

I. makes a run for the ute. Don't get left behind!

J. holds a conversation with Foxxy. Apparently he's on a very strict diet.

RJ: Braaaaains…. Braaaains… I … need … brains…

Dad: Have you checked your sister? She might have some to spare.

RJ: (turning to LR) Braaaains?

LR: Sorry RJ. I need all my brains.

RJ: Braaaains…

Dad: How about the dog? Actually, forget that. She doesn’t have any brains.

LR: (protesting) Yes she does!!!

RJ: Braaaains…

Mum: Here you go RJ. Porridge for us, and a big fresh bowl of brains for you.

RJ: Thank you mummie zombie.

Mum: You’re welcome little zombie.

A Trip Down South

Mum and the kids spent a few days down south. Dad caught up with them over the weekend. We had all sorts of animal visitors to the house: a couple of bandicoots, parrots, cockatoos, galahs, king skinks and even a blue-tongue lizard! LR started each day with riding lessons while RJ spent the mornings exploring.

LR had several riding lessons.

She's getting very good. On the last day we were there, she led everyone back to the stable!

LR gives Seeaney a thank-you carrot.

RJ spent some the time herding snails with a stick. He gets to ride next year!

It's not a rat! A young bandicoot stopped by for a snack.

Mum and LR spotted some fossils while on a walk.

You just can't leave the house without finding them.

It’s September and the wildflowers have gone crazy. We took a quick trip up to Gingin to wish Grammy a happy birthday and spent an afternoon with Poppa helping him with his electronics and designing our own robots.

RJ and LR work on a birthday present for Grammy.

LR admires a huge bunch of daisies.

The almond and other fruit trees in the garden are all flowering.

The field is filled with a carpet of yellow flowers.

LR performs her amazing disappearing stick trick.

Please put down the camera. We want to do something fun.

It's either from a dragon... or a cow.

LR solders a resistor for Poppa.

RJ clips some leads for Poppa.

LR shows off her latest masterpiece - now hanging prominently in her room.

Dad and RJ worked together on cutting, gluing and colouring his robot.

RJ made himself a pair of "mad scientist glasses" -- out of some plastic packaging.

LR and RJ keep each other company during the scary bits of a movie.

Dad: What should we make for dinner RJ?

RJ: Ummm… Pasta… sauce… and something special.

Dad: Special? Like what?

RJ: Let’s cook Scarlet! She’ll be very juicy.

Dad: What!? We can’t cook the dog! Mum would freak!

RJ: How about just her tail?

Dad: Like a dog tail soup or something?

RJ: No. Just chop it in pieces.

Dad: I think Scarlet would miss her tail.

RJ: Yes, but it’s too waggy. She wouldn’t bump us around so much any more.

At the Farm

A few more pictures from our last trip to Gingin. Our friend E stopped by to visit and we had a great time playing in the shed and chasing the pinballs around the fields. The next day we had to prune the grape vines to get them ready for the next growing season. It should be a great crop this year!

RJ gives LR a lift on the block and tackle.

E, RJ and LR decided to bury a small finch, instead of feeding it to Mr. Bitey

Playing fetch with the kids. Sticks don't work, but giant pinballs do!

Look out Poppa! Floating pinballs are dangerous!

Poppa had a bat take residence in his computer.

Mum gets to work on one of the more pathetic grape vines.

LR gets the low branches; Grammy gets the high ones.

RJ helps chop the weeds... unless it's one that he thinks is cute.

Scarlet helps by sniffing everything.

LR harvests the olives, lemons and rose hips.

These olives need to be pickled before we can eat them.

LR carried the bucket everywhere. Strong kid!
