Happy Mother’s Day, everyone! We hope all you Mom’s had a terrific day. Around here, the kids woke up early, putting together a great breakfast for Mom and tried to let her have a quiet, relaxing morning — before going on their normal weekend rampage.

Wow!!!! LR cooked up a huge batch of waffles and arranged this delicious breakfast for Mum! I'm really looking forward to Father's day.

After chopping strawberries and whipping the cream, RJ carefully arranged Mum's favorite chocolates on the platter.

Salted caramels and dark chocolate Belgian truffles... Mmmmmmm....

Happy Mother' Day!

RJ made a placemat for Mum with lots of reasons why he likes to have her around.

We were all surprised to discover her love of energy drinks and the movie, "Home Alone".

While the outside was decorated with a beautiful drawing of flowers, the inside of LR's card featured a friendly bear.

LR makes sure Mum notices how many X's and O's are across the bottom of the card -- probably enough to last the whole year.

Getting a big hug afterwards is always the best part.

LR: My teacher will need to bring her kids along, because she’s divorced and she doesn’t have a husband to watch them.

RJ: What!? No husband? Then how did her kids get fertilized?

LR: She used to have a husband, but they got divorced.

RJ: What happened? Did she kill him?

LR: No, RJ! They got divorced so she wouldn’t kill him!

Mom: RJ, be good. And remember your manners please.

RJ: Sure thing! I’m always good.

Mom: Uh huh. And LR, for goodness sake make Auntie Jess WANT to have children one day!

LR: Cute and cuddly, Mum! Cute and cuddly!

LR: Wait! Dad! Don’t clean up yet! This is important!

(RJ and LR turn away for a moment, then turn back… with spoons on their noses.)

LR & RJ: (in unison) It’s SCIENCE!!!

Dad: Brilliant!

LR: SCIENCE!!!

Dad: Amazing!

RJ: SCIENCE!!!

Dad: Terrific!

LR: SCIENCE!!!

Dad: Stupdendous!

RJ: Now hand over your knickers!!!!

And a moment later, it was off to the lab for some more experiments.

Dad: … “It’s that nickel I found, only it isn’t a nickel! It’s a magic charm…” … Hang on guys, do you know what a nickel is?

LR & RJ: Yeeeesssss…

Dad: LR, what do you think it is?

LR: It’s a type of metal, right?

Dad: That’s right. But it’s also one of these… RJ, any ideas?

RJ: (confidently) It’s kind of a small metal tooth — very detailed.

Dad: Uhhh… What?! Nevermind.
It’s a 5 cent coin from America. They used to make them out of nickel because it’s hard and stays shiny.

RJ & LR: Ohhhh!!!

Decisions, decisions

RJ: If I had a choice between eating liver treats and a big bowl of Rice Bubbles… I think I’d go for the Rice Bubbles.

Dad: I think I’d agree. Besides, liver treats are just awful in milk.

LR: (giggles)

RJ: And… If I had to choose between being a rubbish man or building blocks for a job… I think I’d go for the blocks. Rubbish is just so stinky.

Dad: I agree there too.

RJ: And… If I had to choose between being attacked by scorpions, or eating a nice piece of cake… I think I’d go for the cake.

LR: (attempting to make it more challenging) And what about if you had to choose between being attacked by a lion or being attacked by –

RJ: (interrupting) a cuddly bilbi? I’ll take the bilbi!!!

(Some great friends visited from the US. Among the many fantastic gifts they brought for us were six boxes of real Cheerios…)

Dad: So. What’s for breakfast this morning, guys? How about American Cheerios?

RJ: You’re saying it wrong.

Dad: (with mock American accent) Amerrrican Cheeeerrriowwws?

LR: Nope. You’re still saying it wrong.

Dad: (confused) What do you mean I’m saying it wrong?

RJ: There’s a Cheerio over the letter ‘i’. You’re not saying it.

LR: He’s right, Dad… and I don’t think it’s a silent Cheerio.

Dad: Fair enough… Who wants American Cheeri-Cheerio-os?

LR & RJ: We do!

Diving in with both feet

Last weekend, LR competed in a diving competition. She was a bit worried because last time around, she didn’t do as well as she wanted to… This time was different…

LR brings all her skills from gymnastics and trampolining to diving.

Precision, precision, precision...

And the result is... First place! WOW! Go LR!!!

LR's best friend I. won second place. Great job girls! What a great team!

She wont be fooled again

(LR is sitting at the kitchen counter, checking her email while eating breakfast.)

LR: Hey! I’ve got an email… from Nature Play?

LR: (reading) Now that the weather is starting to cool a bit, it is a great time to get outside and enjoy a hike. There are heaps of opportunities in March to get out into the bush, so why not give some of these ideas a go…

LR: (snickers to herself as she moves on to the next message) Nice try, Nature Play… Nice try.

Trampoline champ!

Rewind to February… Mom was hiking in New Zealand… Dad was feeding the kids… There were days they went without shoes. Sometimes, they even got hungry… They were dark, dark days.

In amongst the gloom and chaos, LR was forced to compete against hardened athletes in a trampoline competition. Somehow, despite her hair being done by her father, LR managed to rise up, again and again, soaring into the the sky, capturing first place in her competition.

Well done LR!!!!

She was all ready to go, fully charged up with bounce.

After warm-ups, the team heads off the floor towards the trampolines. LR led the charge.

She was one of the first to compete and wasn't nervous at all.

She is very precise and has great form.

Those years of gymnastics have given her a huge advantage.

After her routine, she waits for the judge's scores...

After everyone competed, they tallied up the points and LR won first place in her division!

First place trampoline champ! Well done!

The whole team did really well. Congrats guys!
