(While in the car, a strange moaning sound starts from the back seat…)

Dad: Ummm… RJ, Are you okay?

RJ: Woooooohhoooaaahhhhhhhhh….

Dad: That doesn’t sound good. RJ? Is there a problem?

RJ: Yeeeahhhhsssss… But RJ is gooooone. There is only RJ’s ghooooost…

Dad: Oh no. What happened?

RJ: RJ is deaaaaaaaad. DEAAAAAAD!

Dad: What!? He was fine a minute ago, what happened?

RJ: The lollypop… THE LOLLYPOP… THE LOLLYPOP WAS POISONED!

Dad: Disaster! Treachery! Who would be so evil to have done such a foul deed?

RJ: It was… Daaaaaarth Vaaaaaader!!! He poisoned the lollypop with deadly bacteria-aaaah.

Dad: That’s some fast acting bacteria. I hope none of the other kids got those lollypops.

RJ: They did! They’re all dead too! But it’s okay because now we’re all ghosts and we don’t have to do swimming lessons any mooooooooooore.

August 2011, Photo Wrap-Up

In August, as many of us suffered colds and ear infections, another birthday rolled around, RJ played his soccer final, and the kids dressed up for Book Day. We also spent a great weekend up at Gingin with some friends and discovered LR really can be an angel when she wants to.

Coach Jeremy presents RJ with a medal with a congratulatory handshake.

RJ rescued this waterlogged dragonfly at the beach and resuscitated it successfully.

The kids dressed up as their favourite characters for Book Day: RJ as Korlo the Gatekeeper and LR as Nancy Drew.

We spent a weekend up at Gingin, and a friend brought along their dirt bike. LR thought it was AWESOME.

RJ enjoys a piece of cake while taking a break on the pizza oven.

LR threatens to jump on Dad's head from a great height.

A huge stone warrior, bewildered at his sudden relocation to Australia, makes friends with LR.

RJ admires the warrior's collection of snakes, and wants to join the club.

After dark, LR and a friend posed for some light-painting antics.

Big news: RJ has started piano lessons and loves it! In other news, the song "Chopsticks" is taking an unassailable position as least favourite of all time (amongst parents age 30-39).

Hot days, cool pools

For the past several days, we’ve had a run of warm humid weather (35C / 95F), and the forecast looks like there’s no change for the 7 days ahead. Here’s hoping that a few pics of the kids in the pool might help cool us down.

To add to her busy after-school schedule, LR has taken up diving and is loving it. The combination of gymnastics and swimming seems to be a perfect match!

RJ is as much of a fish as his sister and has been working hard at swimming lessons on the weekends. His biggest problem is actually spending time near the surface — he’s much happier diving for toys and other objects off the bottom.

LR listens to her coach and prepares to dive.

RJ is working his way through swimming classes, with a big focus on his freestyle. (Currently on a brief hiatus because of his toe).

It’s summer, so we spend lots of time at or around the water. Having a pool makes a big difference, and so does having summer holidays.

RJ is a cool character while swimming.

Here’s a few water related moments from the past month.

The kids have had swimming lessons every morning for a few weeks, and their skills have improved massively.

LR's works towards her 25 meter freestyle achievement.

RJ heads to the bottom to fetch the dive sticks.

LR got a new camera for Christmas which she’s willing to share with the rest of us. This one is water, sand and shock proof, so it should last much longer than the last one. It also means we can get shots in the pool and at the beach!
