Our Halloween party was a huge one this year. All the big events made a return, as well as the truly terrifying haunted garage. We had three kids in tears and LOTS of screams, so all in all, it was a big success. We’re still finding spiders and webs around the place, even after cleaning up twice!
Even the young ones got dressed up for the party!
In October, we drove south to Eagle Bay with some friends for a few days, and north to Gingin for a weekend with Grammy and Poppa. RJ had his first t-ball game and… his team won! In the middle of all of this (and the Royal Show AND Halloween) we somehow found the time to visit Scitech with some friends to see some of their new exhibits. Wow! We need a break!
We took a trip down to Eagle Bay and had a great time in the water. It's a lot easier to do now that the weather's warming up!
LR is in the kitchen helping Dad get dinner ready. Music is playing and things are relatively calm. All of a sudden, RJ goes zooming past, dancing like a crazy guy.
Dad: LR! What is he doing?
LR: I don’t know… I think it’s… musical statues?
The music stops and RJ freezes.
RJ: Yeah! I’m controlling the music and I’m playing musical statues… Against MYSELF!
The music starts again and RJ resumes whirling.
Dad: What a cool idea! Who’s winning?
RJ: I AM!!!
LR: (with a grin) Yeah? But who’s losing?
The music stops, bringing RJ to a halt.
RJ: (sadly) That’s me. I’m losing…
RJ: (devious grin) … But I think I have discovered a trick!
The music resumes and away he goes.
(while playing a computer game on the kitchen computer)
RJ: Can you help me with this puzzle, Dad?
Dad: (looking over) Umm… Nah. You can do that one on your own, it’s pretty easy.
RJ: Easy, huh? You mean… So easy a child could do it?
Dad: Appropriately enough, yes. It’s so easy a child could do it.
In August, as many of us suffered colds and ear infections, another birthday rolled around, RJ played his soccer final, and the kids dressed up for Book Day. We also spent a great weekend up at Gingin with some friends and discovered LR really can be an angel when she wants to.

(LR goes sprinting past with RJ chasing just behind her…)
LR: I’m Jesus, and I’m going to help everyone with my powers!
RJ: I’m the Romans, and I’m going to hunt you down and kill you! MWAAA HAA HAA!
LR: (distant) But then I’ll just come back from the dead and get you! HA HA!
We’re back from our awesome holiday and the good news is: no monkey bites or life-threatening illnesses!
While we’re getting those pictures sorted out, here’s everything else we got up to during April: our neighbours visited with their new baby, we played real video games for the first time, we took some friends ice skating, we dyed some eggs for Easter and we also noticed that a movie character has been taking fashion tips from… Dad?
Our neighbour's mummy bobtail lizard had babies and they were super cute!
Our trip was filled with new experiences with a lot of things that we’d never get the chance to do back in Perth. We stopped by a lodge where they take retired elephants and spoil them by feeding them melons all day (in exchange for carrying tourists on short walks through jungle and rice paddies). They had a couple of young orangutans who we were allowed to play with, as well as an albino python that RJ thought would make a terrific pet. Finally, we had a fantastic meal at a great, but confusing restaurant motorcycle shop skate shop place called, “Deus Ex Machina”.
Hungry elephants LOVE to eat melons. If you're not careful, they'll even stop along the track to stomp on a jackfruit and eat that too!
(while playing)
RJ: Look at this, Dad. I’ve got a great invention!
Dad: What is it?
RJ: It’s a ‘Head Box’. Guess what’s inside!
Dad: (feigning confusion) Umm… No idea.
RJ: (opens door and a head falls out) It’s got a head in it!
Dad: Yikes! What’s it for?
RJ: It’s great for when you need to get your heads delivered, but this one has a problem. It’s evil!
Dad: What do you mean?
RJ: Anyone who touches the head turns into someone else!
Dad: Whoah, that’s serious! … So what does a head box do if it doesn’t have the evil problem?
RJ: Well, then it’s just a bone box. You know, for delivering normal bones and stuff.
(watching the kids play ‘Guess Who?‘)
LR: RJ, let’s play again, but this time, you can’t pick Theo.
RJ: Okay. I’ll get someone else this time. (carefully picks someone from the set)
LR: You didn’t pick Theo, did you?
RJ: No.
LR: Because you always pick Theo. You have to pick someone else sometimes.
RJ: It’s definitely someone else. He’s really cool.
LR: (doubtfully) Okay… Does your person have brown eyes?
RJ: (examines his person) Nope. Not brown eyes.
LR: Because Theo has brown eyes and if you picked Theo…
RJ: (indignant) I didn’t pick Theo! My person doesn’t have brown eyes!
(game continues for a few rounds)
RJ: Is your person Anita?
LR: Yes!!! Great job! Is your person Daniel?
RJ: Nope.
LR: Is your person Peter?
RJ: Nope.
LR: Then your person is…
LR: (unflips a few faces) It has to be THEO! RJ! STOP DOING THAT! YOU ALWAYS PICK THEO!
RJ: You got it! It IS Theo!
RJ: (giggling) Theo is the best. He looks just like Charles the Second.
